CHICAGO (EJ) In a nearly party-line vote after a bitter debate, Democrats failed to win support from the four Republicans they needed. With Mr. Trump’s acquittal virtually certain, the president’s allies rallied to his defense, though some conceded he was guilty of the central allegations against him.
he Democrats’ push for more witnesses and documents failed 49 to 51, with only two Republicans, Mitt Romney of Utah and Susan Collins of Maine, joining Democrats in favor. A vote on the verdict is planned for Wednesday.
Even as they prepared to vote against removing him, several Republicans challenged Mr. Trump’s repeated assertions that he had done nothing wrong, saying they believed he had committed the main offense of which he was accused: withholding nearly $400 million in military aid to pressure Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and other Democrats.
Still, those Republicans said, they were unwilling to remove a president fewer than 10 months before he is to face voters.
“If you are persuaded that he did it, why do you need more witnesses?” said Senator Lamar Alexander, Republican of Tennessee, a critical swing vote on the issue whose late decision to oppose considering new evidence all but sealed Mr. Trump’s swift acquittal. “The country is not going to accept being told that they can’t elect the president they want to elect in the week the election starts by a majority for a merely inappropriate telephone call or action.”
“You don’t apply capital punishment for every offense,” Mr. Alexander added.
The vote signaled the end of a saga that has consumed Washington and threatened Mr. Trump’s hold on the presidency for the past five months, since the emergence in September of an anonymous whistle-blower complaint accusing him of using the levers of government to push Ukraine to interfere on his behalf in the 2020 election.
Senators recessed the trial for the weekend and will return Monday for closing arguments, with a vote on the verdict on Wednesday.
Mitt Romney of Utah and Susan Collins of Maine are and should be remembered as traders

DERSHOWITZ MOUNTS UNCONVENTIONAL DEFENSE OF TRUMP AS SENATE IMPEACHMENT TRIAL ENTERS NEW PHASE
Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said he believes there are at least three Republicans who are seriously considering witnesses. “We need more,” he acknowledged Thursday.
GOP Sens. Mitt Romney of Utah, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska are the three senators who have consistently signaled a willingness to join with Democrats.
"The fate of much of the future of how this republic conducts itself is on the shoulders of four Republicans," said Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
"A trial without truth, without key evidence, without witnesses and documents would render the president's acquittal meaningless," Schumer added. "A giant asterisk next to it, because the trial was so UNSUPPORTED BY ANY EVIDENCE."

JOHN BOLTON IS A LIAR WHO MITT ROMNEY WANTS TO EXPLOIT IN ORDER TO HURT TRUMP

CHICAGO-(AEAE) Details that became public Sunday from Bolton’s unpublished book manuscript suggest that he could provide direct evidence that Trump sought to deny security assistance to Ukraine until Kyiv announced investigations into political opponents, including the Bidens. Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said Monday, repeatedly calling Bolton’s testimony “relevant.” “It’s important to be able to hear from John Bolton, for us to be able to make an impartial judgment.”
It is obvious from the record that both John Bolton and his landsman, Mitt Romney are trying desperately to keep their names in the headlines by whatever means possible.

Last week, Trump’s attorneys had to sit quietly and watch while the House Democratic managers delivered their arguments, but Monday the roles were reversed and the seven House managers sat quietly looking on as one member of Trump’s defense team after another rose to address different aspects of the proceedings.
The first Trump lawyer to speak at length was Kenneth Starr, the former independent counsel whose expansive investigation of Bill Clinton led to Clinton’s impeachment by the House in 1998 and subsequent acquittal by the Senate. Starr talked about the constitutional basis for the impeachment process, contending that it is at risk of being abused unless today’s Senate acts to stop it.

Trump impeachment is a 'hoax'

Chicago (EJ) Trump slammed his impeachment as a hoax that distracted attention from two of the biggest trade deals in the history of the country that were reached this week. He signed a deal with China on Wednesday and the Senate gave final approval Thursday to a trade deal with Canada and Mexico.
A two-thirds majority of the Senate would be required to convict and remove Trump, which is unlikely in the chamber where Republicans outnumber Democrats 53 to 47.
The articles accuse Trump of pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Biden while withholding a valuable White House meeting and $391 million in military aid.
Trump and his Republican defenders said he has the authority to conduct foreign policy and sought was justified in seeking to fight corruption in Ukraine. Republicans noted that Zelensky never announced an investigation, but Trump met with him and released the aid anyway.
“They have a hoax going on over there. Let’s take care of it," Trump told congressional Republicans who attended a White House ceremony Wednesday announcing a China trade agreement.

l
Chicago-(EJ) European Security Officials  said that  Iran shot down a Ukrainian airliner on Wednesday, based on continuing analysis of data from satellites, radar and electronic data collected routinely by military and intelligence sources.
President Donald Trump on Thursday said he suspected the crash was caused by the Iranians
European security officials told CNN that the plane was shot down by an Iranian surface to air missile in retaliation for the killing of its top general in Iraq.
The timing of the crash , coming just hours after Iran fired missiles at two Iraqi bases housing US troops. The exchange of attacks between Tehran and Washington on Iraqi soil was a dramatic escalation of tensions between the adversaries, and is raising fears of another proxy war in the Middle Ea
The head of Iran's Civil Aviation Authority has refused to deny the allegations.
Ali Abedzadeh said, "There is no question that  a rocket or missile hit the plane, the only question is whether the Americans are behind this attack?”
Abedzadeh said that “he believed that the the great Satan, American, shot down the plane and are now trying to blame Iran. He said,”Americans are behind all of the evil in the world, they are the great “Satan,”  I am glade my relatives were not on that plane.”
Newsweek was first to report US and Iraqi sources reporting that Iran shot down the plane.
The Ukrainian International Airlines (UIA) flight PS752 came down just minutes after takeoff from Tehran on Wednesday local time, killing all 176 people on board, including dozens of Iranians and Canadians. The Boeing 737-800 was headed for Kiev, where 138 passengers were expected to take a connecting flight to Canada. Ukrainians, Swedes, Afghans, Germans and British nationals were also aboard.
Boeing was relieved to hear that a missile hit their 737 plane killing 138 people,  and that it was not a "soft ware," problem that brought down the plane.
Joe Biden said,"I never had a problem with the Iranians, If they get the bomb, they will not use it on Israel or the U.S"  Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders both agreed with Biden.

TIME FOR THE BAN ON FELONS  RIGHTS TO POSSESS HANDGUNS TO BE LIFTED

Chicago (EJ) Leo Stoller 73’ a disabled person, a protected person, as defined by the Americans for Disability Act (ADA) respectfully petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court today  for a writ of certiorari to review the judgment  of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit decision refusing to allow felons to possess fire arms

At Issue:  Stoller case involves a Second Amendment challenge to 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1), the federal law prohibiting gun ownership by first time offenders, people convicted of non violent felonies A majority of Third Circuit judges, sitting en banc, agreed that § 922(g)(1) is unconstitutional as applied to Daniel Binderup (who was convicted of corrupting a minor), and Julio Suarez (who was convicted of carrying an unlicensed handgun. Stoller argues that the Third Circuit decision on sustain the right for convicted criminals to retain Second Amendment Rights to possess fire Arms, should be the law in every Federal Circuit.
Stoller argues that The Supreme Court’s intervention is necessary because there is a division in the federal appellate courts on the permissibility of as-applied challenges to § 922(g)(1).
Stoller’s  brief explains that the recent Third Circuit’s ruling invalidates § 922(g)(1) in many of its applications, and is in conflict with the other circuits.

Stoller argues the U.S. Supreme Court should must accept the Petitioner’s Writ of Cert to clarify that the Third Circuit’s ruling   that invalidates § 922(g)(1) in many of its applications, and will not allow dangerous felons to acquire firearms, contravening Congress’s intent to prohibit all criminals who committed crimes with at least the specified maximum sentence from acquiring firearms and does not create administrative burdens that undermine the efficacy of § 922(g)(1).   and will not allow dangerous felons to acquire firearms, contravening Congress’s intent to prohibit all criminals who committed crimes with at least the specified maximum sentence from acquiring firearms. We also argue that the Third Circuit’s decision  will not create administrative burdens that undermine the efficacy of § 922(g)(1).  On the other hand if the Third Circuit’s decision  becomes the law of the land it will.

Stoller argues that the U.S. Supreme Cour must Declare that the felon-in-possession ban of 18 USC § 922(g)(1) is unconstitutional as applied to  non violent, first time offenders. See a copy of his Supreme Court Brief which was filed today.
